8th Grade Mathematics Syllabus
Welcome to your 8th grade Math class! This is your syllabus for the 2017-2018 school year. This syllabus is subject to change at any time during the year and you will be responsible for making changes accordingly. I am very excited to have you in my class this year and I look forward to helping you improve your academic performance.
- Math binder/folder
- Interactive notebook
- #2 pencils or mechanical pencils
- Loose leaf paper
Rules and Procedures
Aside from following the campus policies, students are expected to create their own classroom rules, ( to be approved by me) regardless if they are visible or not. Failure to follow these rules and procedures can result in poor conduct.
- 1st Offense- Verbal warning
- 2nd Offense- Parent contact
- 3rd Offense- Teacher detention
- 4th Offense- Discipline referral
Daily Grades 50% (Bellwork, Homework, Notes, Participation)
Assessments 35% (Tests, Quizzes)
Nine-Weeks Exams 15% (Curriculum Based Assessments, Benchmarks)
Assignments will be given daily and must be completed in pencil ONLY. Be sure to always write your full name, date, and period on ALL assignments. Failure to do so will result in point deduction. Homework will be assigned every Wednesday. All class assignments and homework should be completed in a neat and orderly fashion.
Assignments can be made up if the student has missed a class/lecture. It is the student’s responsibility to pick up the assignment. The assignment will be placed in a designated area. The student has one day for each day absent to turn in any make-up work. (Exceptions will be considered for students that are absent for prolonged periods of time.)
Late Work Policy
Missing homework or assignments are NOT acceptable. If an assignment or homework is not completed in time, a parent/guardian contact will be made and the grade will drop 20 points. If the work is not turned in the following day, the grade drops to a 70 and a tutorial/detention will be issued.
Tests will be given approximately every 2-3 weeks. All tests are to be completed in pencil only. During the test, students must follow the proper procedures – no talking, eyes on your own paper, no passing of notes, etc. Failure to follow testing procedures may result in a “0” and a discipline referral.
- Students can make corrections to the original test during class review or in tutorials. The re-test must be within 3 school days of the original test date for a maximum grade of 70. Please adhere to the following guidelines when making test corrections:
- Students are required to make test corrections on a separate sheet of paper
- Write down the questions you missed
- Show your work/strategies
- Submit the correct answer
- Staple your corrections to the original test
Tutorials will be held after school every Wednesday from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. in room 826.
*Alternate times will be available for students, upon request.
