Channelview ISD will be providing free COVID-19 Rapid Tests to face-to-face students and staff to be administered at all campuses.

The Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) oversees allocation, distribution and tracking of COVID-19 testing kits in our state. Channelview ISD has partnered with TDEM for their COVID-19 K-12 Testing Program, which has been made available to all Texas schools.

The program uses Abbott Laboratories BinaxNOW  COVID-19 Rapid Tests that are provided by the federal government. No one will be tested without permission or parent consent.

“We know this is a crucial step in helping prevent the spread of COVID-19,” said Channelview ISD Superintendent Greg Ollis. “As a district, we will continue our COVID-19 preventative measures such as, mask-wearing, social distancing, and frequent disinfection of classrooms and surfaces.”

TDEM will provide all of the necessary testing materials and training to all participating districts. Every campus will train multiple staff members to become test administrators. Each test administrator will be responsible for administering the test, reporting the results, and ensuring the campus has sufficient testing materials and PPE equipment.

The district will be conducting a phase-in approach to test staff and students.

    • Phase 1:  Rapid COVID-19 testing for symptomatic staff members 1-5-2021
    • Phase 2:  Rapid COVID-19 testing for symptomatic staff members and students (with parent permission).   1-5-2021
    • Phase 3: Rapid COVID-19 testing for asymptomatic and exposure to COVID-19 staff members. 1-5-2021
    • Phase 4:  Rapid COVID-19 testing for asymptomatic and exposure to COVID-19 students with parent permission. 1-5-2021

If a student or staff member tests positive, they will be moved to an isolated room until a parent or guardian can pick up the student. If the student or staff member’s results are negative, they will still be asked to go home and encouraged to follow-up with their doctor to receive their diagnosis.
