The Channelview Falcon Powerlifting Team had an impressive year, finishing second at the Regional Meet and 24th overall at the State Competition. The Board of Trustees honored their accomplishments at their April meeting. The honorees included Jessy Yanez – Regional Finalist and State Qualifier, Bernard Childs – Regional Champion and State Qualifier, Michael Bush – Regional Qualifier and Dawson Nobriga – Regional Champion and State Qualifier, also Academic All-State. Coaches are Averion Hurts and Ephraim Patterson.
Lady Falcon Powerlifting
The Channelview Lady Falcon Powerlifting Team had a very successful season this year. Seven girls advanced to regionals and five went on to compete at state. The team tied for third at regionals and finished 20th overall at the State Competition. Team members honored at the regional and state level included Valerie Arango – Regional Qualifier, Jocelyn Hernandez – Regional Qualifier, Maritza Catalan – Regional Finalist and State Qualifier, Joselin Lara – Regional Finalist and State Qualifier, Kennedi Henderson – Regional Champion and State Qualifier, Madison Hall – Regional Finalist and State Qualifier and Jennifer Sierra – Regional Finalist and State Qualifier. Coaches are Cherissa Jordan and Ephraim Patterson.
Falcon Soccer
The Channelview Falcon Soccer Team was honored by the Board of Trustees for finishing the season as Regional Quarterfinalists for the third year in a row. The Falcons overcame adversities due to injuries to key players during the season and finished among some of the state’s best teams with a 14-5-6 overall record. The team is led by Head Coach Carlos Galuppo and assistants Jabari Lockett and Stephen O' Sullivan.
Aguirre named AVID National Demonstration School
The Board recognized Aguirre Junior High staff on being named an AVID National Demonstration School. Aguirre is one of six schools in the Houston area and 44 in Texas to be designated as the top 200 AVID programs nationwide. AVID is a program designed to enhance college and career readiness skills among students through pre-advanced placement programs, enrichment opportunities, individual support and tutorials.
Cobb STEM Club presentation
The Cobb Elementary STEM Club gave a presentation about their after-school program at the Board of Trustees meeting. Students are able to take part in interactive activities while learning concepts in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Resources for the program came from a grant from the Channelview ISD Education Foundation. Cobb Science Teacher Xavier Lewis serves as sponsor for the program.
