The Channelview Independent School District's Multilingual Department is focused on meeting the needs of all students and provides a Dual Language One-Way Immersion program for all Emergent Bilingual (EB) students in PK-5th grade whose primary language is Spanish.
The number of EB students in other language categories varies each year, and the students are provided instruction in an English As A Second Language (ESL) program.
The primary goal of the elementary Dual Language/ESL Program is to provide instruction to enable Emergent Bilingual students to become competent in the speaking, reading, listening, and writing of the English language through the integrated use of second language methods.
English instruction that is commensurate with the student's level of English proficiency is delivered though ESL methodology by an endorsed ESL teacher.
The Elementary Dual Language/ESL staff is eager to provide assistance with:
- Sheltered instruction
- Differentiated instruction
- Hands-on learning
- Small group instruction
- Rigorous TEKS-based instruction
- Conceptual-based learning
- Cooperative learning
- Individualized instruction centers
- Active participation
- Problem-solving
