• AVID Visits Lamar University

Posted by Valerie Malone on 10/4/2015 9:00:00 AM

The first official college tour for AVID students this year was to Lamar University.

These students represented Alice Johnon Junior High perfectly. Everyone could not stop commenting on how polite and well mannered the students were during their tour and trip to the university book store.  We are so proud of our AJJH AVID students!  64 students attended the field trip.

Last week AVID students began spying on their teachers for a WICOR report.  The students were looking for Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization and Reading strategies being used in their core subjects. Each AVID student completed their WICOR report and then presented it to their teacher.  Using the WICOR report helps our AVID students realize that the strategies we use in AVID apply to all subjects.

AVID is one of the best organizations in school.  We do many activities, for example field trips, hands-on and many more. We're like a family of birds in a nest without pest.  I'm very happy and hope to be in AVID the rest of the year.
**Students were asked to write about AVID using 42 words; including best, pest, nest, rest, and happy as a challenge activity.
