Channelview ISD students awarded for meeting literacy goals

Second-grade students at Harvey Brown Elementary accepted a reading challenge for the 2018-2019 school year.  In an effort to motivate students and boost reading skills throughout the grade level, East Harris County Empowerment Council and Changing Young Children’s Lives through Education (CYCLE), joined forces to reward Channelview ISD students with bikes and helmets for reaching their literacy goals.

The CYCLE program was designed to ensure success for all participating students.  Stakeholders joined forces as teachers, parents, and students collaborated to create personal goals.  At the conclusion of the goal-setting process, students signed a contract, making a commitment to work hard to achieve their goals. “The Channelview Independent School District believes in the power of teamwork and collaboration,” said Superintendent Greg Ollis.  “When parents, community, and schools come together to celebrate academic success, students always win!”

CYCLE motivates thousands of children at Title One schools in the Greater Houston area to improve their literacy skills and achieve in the classroom. To date, the organization has awarded over 150,000 bikes to deserving students.
