Each year, Channelview Independent School District kicks off the school year with a celebration filled with energy, entertainment, and excitement! Departments and campuses wear coordinating shirts, cheer with pom poms, and celebrate loudly during the annual roll call. The pep rally style event sets the tone for the district’s opening of a brand new school year.

The program was filled with entertainment from Channelview High School band, Channelettes, cheerleaders, choir, JROTC, and student leaders. School Board Trustee Pastor Kent Wilson welcomed staff to the 2019-2020 school year with invocation and words of inspiration.

Superintendent Greg Ollis welcomed staff members from all departments and provided direction for the new academic year. The 2019 CISD Convocation was held just in time for the announcement of the district’s “B” rating on the 2019 Accountability Rating System from the Texas Education Agency. The announcement drew a standing ovation and cheers from everyone in attendance.

The Connection Coach, Mr. Jonathan Sprinkles, gave real-life examples of determination and perseverance. Employees were empowered to work through adversities to make lasting connections with students. Through the use of audience participation and interactive skits, educators were reminded of why they chose to educate future generations.

Channelview ISD revealed the 2019-2020 theme for the new school year: The Future is in Our Hands. A connection to the theme was made through the testimonies of staff members, parents, and community members in the premier of the district video A Look inside Channelview ISD. The video drew smiles, cheers, and tears of joy from employees. The entire event reminded everyone that the future of the Channelview community is in our hands.

After a day filled with passionate and motivating stories, the winner of the 2019 CISD spirit trophy was DeZavala Elementary School. Educators shared their excitement through the use of the hashtags #proud2beCISD and #inourhands.
