Houston Grand Opera performs Strega Nona for Channelview lSD students

Students were captivated with music and art while on a field trip at Channelview High School. After reading the book and writing about it in the library, students had the opportunity to watch Strega Nona on stage!
The field trip was a total success. The students were engaged and laughing throughout the whole experience. Studies have shown that exposure music and fine arts improve student success across the entire curriculum by enhancing memory, mindset, and also by reducing stress.
The Early Childhood Center (ECC) is thankful for the Houston Grand Opera, the Opera-To-Go program, and the CISD transportation department for making this field trip possible for all ECC students.
"This is an experience than many of our students may not have ever had otherwise," said ECC Librarian Linda Baker. "It is a privilege to be
able to create teachable moments like this that last a lifetime for our community."
Strega Nona is comical opera about the adventures of a well-meaning but mischievous young man in a small Italian town. Based on the award-winning storybook by Tomie dePaola, this opera was specially designed for young audiences.
