Channelview ISD Leader Honored as Principal of the Year Finalist
Anthony Aguirre Junior High Principal Eric Lathan was honored as a finalist for Middle School Principal of the Year for the 2019-2020 academic year by the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals (TASSP).
TASSP is an association that consists of an estimated 5,600 secondary school administrators dedicated to helping students and overcoming the challenges in education.
“I know that my leadership is only as good as those people who have been there to guide me with their exceptional leadership and who thankfully possessed the foresight and motivation to provide an outstanding education for everyone under their tutelage,” said Principal Lathan.
Lathan has been an educator for 24 years, including principal for seven. He credits his success as a leader to his ability to think outside the box, and coming up with new innovative ways to educate. He pursued a career in education to help ensure students have the opportunity to be productive and autonomous citizens.
“We are incredibly proud of Mr. Lathan’s accomplishments,” said Dr. Don Beck, Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education. “We are fortunate to have him leading one of our campuses and know he is making an important impact in education.”
Lathan was honored during the annual Jostens Night of the Stars in June. This year the event was hosted virtually due to the COVID-19 restrictions.
