Channelview ISD Receives $15,000 Grant to Help Stop The Spread of COVID-19
Channelview ISD is the proud recipient of the Keeping Channelview ISD Healthy and In Check Grant, provided by the Harris County Department of Education and Education Foundation of Harris County.
The grant was awarded to Channelview ISD for $15,000 to purchase 150 touchless thermometers to carefully monitor anyone who enters Channelview ISD educational facilities during the COVID-19 pandemic. All of the thermometers purchased use infrared technology to ensure the safety of the person checking temperatures and the safety of those whose temperature is being monitored without physical contact.
“COVID-19 has taken a toll on the entire country, and our community is no exception ,” said Superintendent Greg Ollis. “We are incredibly grateful for the support provided by the Harris County Department of Education and the Education Foundation of Harris County. These thermometers will help us mitigate the spread of Coronavirus.”
Channelview ISD is located in an unincorporated area on the East side of Harris County and 80.7 % of the student body are considered economically disadvantaged. COVID-19 has the potential to leave a lasting financial impact on the district.
“During these unprecedented times, the health and well-being of our students and faculty are of the utmost importance,” said Channelview ISD Federal Programs Director Patricia Glaeser. “Our students must know they are safe in order to be successful and we will always provide a safe learning environment.”
The first four weeks of instruction are completely online, with students whose parents elected to return to campus for in-person instruction on Oct. 5. District leaders want to ensure students are safe when they return. Therefore, the district has purchased hand sanitizers for every classroom, classrooms will be cleaned on a regular basis, and will require students and teachers to social distance and wear a face mask.
