Save the Children Partner Spotlight of the Week: Crystal Gonzalez, Save the Children Program Coordinator (Schochler Elementary)

ave the Children would like to take a moment to celebrate Crystal Gonzalez, Save the Children Program Coordinator, Schochler Elementary School. There are so many words we could use to describe Ms. Gonzalez – from passionate, to innovative, fun, a fast learner, intelligent, but most of all a CHAMPION!  This year has been very challenging for all of us but Ms. Gonzalez has proven that nothing will stop her from being the best and giving the best to her students. We appreciate all of her leadership during the Save the Children inschool and afterschool programs, plus SummerBoost program. Ms. Gonzalez does a great job working with students during the school day in smaller group virtually and leads the Schochler team during afterschool. We have seen a different level of creativity in the activities developed for the Emergent Readers to the themed art enrichment activities developed to keep the children engage.

On Tuesday December 15th, Schochler held a Drive Through Christmas event for children and families. Staff dressed in Christmas attire and held giant posters with the story, "Twas the Night Before Christmas". Families had the opportunity to drive through and hear the story read in English or Spanish. As cars approached the end of the line, they were greeted by Santa and given a bag of goodies to take home. Children, families and Schochler staff had a great time enjoying this opportunity. This is truly taking Family Engagement to another level.

Over the last 2 years, Crystal Gonzalez has done a phenomenal job recruiting children for the Save the Children programs. She has gone beyond to building relationships with school staff and has done wonderful keeping her Principal informed about her programs. We thank you for all the support offered to afterschool staff with lesson development and getting the materials needed for implementing programs. It’s great to see the wonderful relationships formed with families and all you have done to keep Save the Children programs in the spotlight. We value you and all your hard work. YOU ARE DEFINITELY A CHAMPION FOR CHILDREN!
