About Me

My name is LaToya Ballard, and I am the 2024-2025 Behavior Student Services and Reading Resource Teacher for Harvey Brown Elementary. Before entering into education, I worked as a detention officer and HIV counselor at the Harris County Sheriffs Office. This line of work gave me a greater sense of compassion for people, and I wanted to be at the forefront of preventing our youth from spiraling into the legal system. I decided to make a difference by becoming an educator! I earned my Master's in Diversity, Equity, and Social Justice in Education from the University of Texas El Paso in August 2024. I also hold a Bachelor's in Psychology from the University of Phoenix. My goal this year is to push and motivate students to engage in more social activities and to make connections through communicative efforts and positive behavior. I encourage parents to openly and freely communicate with me to ensure our students' success this school year!
