About Me

Greetings,

I have dedicated 30-plus years of service to education in various capacities as a special educator and currently a school counselor with over 10 years of experience in Channelview ISD.  I am proud to currently serve as one of Harvey Brown Elementary’s School Counselors and enjoy working with all students in grades 3 – 5, as well as assisting my co-counselor with students in grades K – 2.  I am a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, auntie, and good friend to all of my wonderful family and friends.  My life motto is “to whom much is given, much is required”, which is one of my favorite bible scriptures.  Also, I center my life around the fact that if I can help at least one person and be of service to those in need, then I have done my part.  I am fortunate to be in the position I am in, and I will always strive to do my best to help those in my circle of influence.

We are so excited to have all of your students join our school. As your school counselors, it is our job to ensure that all of our Harvey Brown students' social and emotional needs are enhanced through a variety of activities and services throughout the school year. Guidance and counseling are both preventative and proactive and are designed to reach out to all students through four delivery systems: guidance curriculum, individual planning, responsive services, and system support. We teach guidance lessons, facilitate small group counseling, provide individual counseling, and we also consult with our families and staff. Our goal is to assist students with social-emotional learning, decision-making, goal-setting, problem-solving, interpersonal effectiveness, responsible behavior, cross-cultural effectiveness, self-confidence, character development, and communication skills. All of these skills are necessary to develop social and emotional skills which help to provide overall enjoyment in life.

Counseling Department Mission Statement

It is the mission of the School Counseling Program of Harvey Brown Elementary School to recognize and respect the unique qualities of each student and guide all students toward academic, personal, social, and career success. By collaborating with other educators, the families of students, and members of the community, using a comprehensive guidance program, maintaining high expectations for all students, and addressing barriers to learning we aim to provide students with the skills, knowledge, and attitude to become effective learners and productive members of their communities.

Counseling Department Philosophy

The School Counselor at Harvey Brown Believes:

· All students can achieve with proper support, care, and guidance.

· Every student should have an opportunity to achieve academic success regardless of race,
ethnicity, gender, physical abilities, religious views, or socioeconomic status.

· All students have the right to participate in the school counseling program.

· All students’ developmental abilities and multi-intelligences should
be considered in planning and implementing the school counseling program.

· All students should be instructed with a holistic (mind/body connection)
approach in providing counseling services.
