Welcome to 2nd Grade!
Hello and Welcome!
I am so excited to welcome you and your child to my classroom! This school year, I will be self-contained, which means I will teach all subject areas.
This is my 23rd year teaching in Channelview ISD and my 22nd year at Harvey Brown Elementary! Believe it or not, Harvey Brown opened its doors during the 2005–2006 school year. I began my teaching career in 3rd grade and am now enjoying the wonderful world of 2nd grade!
One of my greatest goals is to instill a LOVE of learning in every child. I wholeheartedly believe that ALL CHILDREN CAN AND WILL LEARN! Every child may learn differently or face challenges along the way, but I take my role as an educator seriously and will do everything I can to help your child learn, grow, and be successful.
Building Responsibility
An important skill for 2nd graders is learning to become responsible and independent learners. This year, we will work hard to build strong habits, take ownership of our learning, follow directions, and do our very best. These skills will help prepare students for the years of learning and assessments ahead.
How Can You Help at Home?
Your role is SO important! One of the best things you can do is listen to your child read as often as possible.
Ask your child about:
What they are reading
What they learned
New vocabulary words
Different types of texts
What they learned in Reading, Math, Science, and Social Studies
Encourage your child to talk, explain, and ask questions. The more children communicate, the more they build their vocabulary and develop the language skills they need to become stronger readers and writers.
We are a team! When school and home work together and model the importance of learning, reading, writing, responsibility, and perseverance, our children have the opportunity to thrive.
Communication Is Key!
My conference time is 2:40–3:15 p.m. I am always just a phone call, email, or SchoolStatus message away.
Please know that I LOVE children, and I will do everything I can to nurture, encourage, and help your child grow academically and personally.
Please reach out anytime you have a question or concern. Open communication between home and school is extremely important to me.
