About Me

I have been teaching in Channelview since 1996!!  I love this community, it feels like home!  I taught 4th grade for several years.  Then I worked with students who needed extra help with reading. I taught 1st grade for 8 years. Now I'm back to working with students who need extra help with reading. Specifically, I'm working with dyslexic students. I absolutely love my job!  Seeing my students grow and learn makes me so happy!!

For your information:

Your child should be reading every night for at least 20 minutes. They also need to practice reading their sight words fluently.  Listening to books on "tape" is a great way to help your child hear what a fluent reader sounds like.

For dyslexic students, look into Hank Zipzer and Percy Jackson books. Both of those characters have dyslexia, and students love their books. I'm still looking for books that have a female main character, with dyslexia, but so far I've had no luck. Be patient and encouraging towards your child's reading. Thanks for all you do!!
