February 10, 2026 — Channelview Independent School District has been awarded the PREP (Preparing and Retaining Effective Professionals) Program Allotment, providing new opportunities to strengthen teacher preparation, recruitment, and retention efforts across the district.

The PREP Program Allotment, funded through an estimated total allocation of $146M through the Texas Education Agency, supports school districts in developing high-quality educator pipelines through partnerships with education preparation programs and institutions of higher education. As an allotment, the funding allows districts to invest in innovative strategies that prepare future teachers and support current staff.

“Being awarded the PREP Program Allotment is a significant step forward for Channelview ISD,” said Superintendent Dr. Tory Hill. “This opportunity allows us to invest in the next generation of educators while strengthening the systems that support our teachers today. By building strong partnerships and growing our own talent, we are ensuring long-term success for our students and schools.”

Through the PREP Program Allotment, Channelview ISD will continue to expand opportunities for aspiring educators, strengthen partnerships, and enhance professional development pathways for staff.

As part of the award process, Channelview ISD will complete a Verification of Participation (VoP) between May 1 and May 31. During this window, districts confirm their commitment to the program, submit updated participation estimates, and finalize partnership agreements when applicable. This process allows districts to make informed decisions based on finalized guidance and updated rules from the Texas Education Agency (TEA).
