Channelview High School continues to set the standard for excellence in career and technical education, and this year’s candidates for the Select Technical Diesel Automotive Program are a testament to that tradition. Earlier this month, several of our outstanding students participated in a highly competitive interview process for this prestigious program—one that selects only ten students per class from across the region.
We are proud to announce that two of our very own students, Mr. Jayden Gongora and Ms. Briana Portillo, have been selected for this elite opportunity. Their selection reflects not only their technical skill but also their professionalism, work ethic, and dedication to the automotive field.
This year is especially historic for Channelview High School, as Briana Portillo becomes the first female student ever selected into the program. Briana has consistently demonstrated excellence as a CTE Ambassador, has earned multiple ASE Entry-Level Certifications through our Automotive Technology program, and serves as one of our lead technicians in training. Her achievement represents a major milestone, not only for herself but for future generations of students who will follow in her footsteps.
Through the Select Technical Diesel Automotive Program, Briana will have the opportunity to earn nine Diesel Technologist certifications and secure a permanent technician position with Freightliner upon completion. This is an incredible accomplishment and a life-changing opportunity that reflects her hard work and determination.
Please join us in congratulating both Jayden and Briana on their outstanding achievements. When you see them, be sure to give them the recognition they have earned—they truly represent the very best of Channelview High School.
